Why do the Reshi attack the Alethi during The Way of Kings

I am making my way through the Stormlight Archive (again) and this round I got a curious detail: on multiple occasions, the Reshi are said to have attacked the Alethi on multiple occasions.

But why? There are hints throughout the books that we can string together to make a theory, and that's exactly what I intended to do!
